Under-Standing is a dance work for four dancers and a live musician. The project continues an artistic research developed over the past year around body, space, direction and orientation. Its movement language emerges from a dialogue between Eshkol-Wachman Movement Notation, the Feldenkrais Method and Contact Improvisation, using deliberately disrupted directions to unsettle habitual relationships between the upright body, the surrounding space and the ground beneath it.

The title Under-Standing points simultaneously to standing and understanding: to what lies underneath both. The ground holds us continuously, yet usually remains outside our attention. Each time the body seems to establish stability, direction or comprehension, that certainty is undermined and the body is required to reorganize.

The choreography moves toward a human fabric that is at once contemporary and primal - a physical continuum of crawling, rising, standing, falling and reorganizing. Each time we think we understand - that we have grasped something - it slips away, returning us one level lower: underneath.
